Eve-Teasing
Ok girls,
let’s face it...At some point of time in our lives we’ve all experienced
this…Walking on streets or boarding a public transport, those glares and
glances and even comments for that matter are unavoidable….and no matter how
strong we may try to act, give a stern look to the person or even answer
back, trying to assert that we are unperturbed..But the real fact is that such
instances actually petrify us and the very thought of venturing out of our
house into the "big bad world" forces us to step back and think...Are we prepared for such
situations??
Eve
–teasing is basically a euphemism used in India and some of the countries of
the Indian subcontinent for public harassment or molestation of women by men
with the use of the word “Eve” referring to the biblical Eve…but over the years it has taken several
forms and now includes any act which offends women publicly, even if it is a 'stare'…Unlike Hindi movies where a
bunch of goons try to pass lewd remarks on a damsel only to be beaten up by the
hero in return. In real life we have to be our own heroes and fight for our
dignity and self respect which are being jeopardized every other day …Thanks to
some morons who roam on the streets crooning a “shiela ki jawani” or an autorikshaw driver who adjusts the rear view mirror just to get a
better look of the girl who doesn’t take the bus coz the conductor apparently tries
to get a little “too up close and personal”…From the under-age rikshawala to the old and weary sabziwala , no one leaves any stone upturned in assaulting an already "mentally jolted girl"
like it !!!!!!!!!
