NOT THE NEXT GOD!!!

It was early 2008 and the Indian cricket team had defeated Australia hands down in the Commonwealth Bank (CB) series…While the senior team had registered an emphatic win against the best ODI team in the world, the under-19 team was scripting another success story simultaneously…Under Virat Kohli’s captaincy the team had clinched the under19 world cup after a gap of eight years, Kohli himself being the Man of the tournament…This was my first brush with the handsome young lad who did manage to give me a couple of sleepless nights (candid confession on my part :P) …In spite of such a huge achievement ,Kohli came under the scanner from fans and critics alike given his aggression and unusual temperament, something which could play spoilsport in his dream to make it big… Keeping the technical aspects aside, Virat Kohli had indeed managed to bowl over a 13 yr old that was me , a craze that continues well till date…Out of admiration for  Kohli I remember making a statement that “ He ...

More than just a ton..

Finally! Finally! Finally! The long and tiring wait is over and yes, for good…That Sachin Tendulkar made his 100 th international century is now a part of history books…So unlike the usual critics who had questioned Sachin’s very presence in the team owing to his constant failure in keeping up to the expectations of the people and shamelessly switched sides once this spectacular feat was achieved, I would not like to go into the details so as to “once again” define Sachin’s greatness, his expertise over the game and how come he has silenced  critics with his bat… Sachin Tendulkar, a name that speaks for itself…Over his illustrious career spanning more than a couple of decades, his bat has always done the talking and at the twilight of his career, he is simply not answerable to anyone…Hitting 100 tons in international cricket is something so great that no one ever has or ever will be able to achieve this miracle (bringing my biased view along, Virat Kohli might as well do i...

Goodbye to the Great Wall

Was it the right time? Well, this was the only thought that flashed across my mind as news channels broke the news of Rahul Dravid’s retirement from international cricket…Although rumors, regarding the fact that “the wall” had decided to quit the longer and the only version of the game of which he was a part had been doing the rounds way before the actual announcement, I had sincere hopes that this wouldn’t be the case... Considering the fact that at 38,dravid was old and weary, not suitable for a game that demanded so much of stamina and his recent performances fuelled the fire that he was “past his prime”, his retirement was justified…Yet his decision to hang up his boots did not go down too well with me…There are no two ways about the fact that as a player, as a cricketer ,RAHUL DRAVID was a class apart….A cut above the rest, a player who  always let his bat do the talking...And the reason why I am singing praises for him stems from the fact that as a cricket fanatic, I ...
